Dancers Pointe - Imitated, but never duplicated. Train Right...Dance Right...
Dancers Pointe Studio Policy

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AND KEEP FOR FUTURE REFERENCE

The following rules must be followed while the student is enrolled Dancers Pointe Studios:

1. REGISTRATION: No student will be permitted to take part in a DP class without a valid registration. A valid registration requires DP’s Registration form filled out in its entirety and signed by the participating child’s parent or guardian or the student if 18 or over. One form must be filled out for each student signing up for a class. A valid registration including full registration payment and all signed forms is required to guarantee a spot in the recital ticket sale list (see Recital Tickets below).

2. RECITAL TICKETS: Recital tickets are made available approximately one month prior to recital and are required for admission to DP’s recital(s) in June. Ticket costs vary and seating is assigned. Tickets are required for children of all ages. There is no limit to the number of tickets you can purchase. Recital ticket sales are based on the date of your completed registration. Date of registration dictates your place in “line” for tickets: tickets are made available to all students and their families at the same time, however, seating is assigned from the front of the auditorium to the back; the first family on the registration list will have their number of tickets purchased assigned from the front-most available row and back until their required number of seats is met; the next will continue from the next open seat until their seat requirement is met, and so on. It is important to note: the earlier the registration the closer the tickets are to the stage.

3. ATTENDANCE: Excessive absenteeism may result in a student being ineligible to participate in DP recitals, performances and competitions. ‘Excessive’ is defined by DP as: missing more than 2 weekly classes per month without medical excuse from September through March; missing more than 1 weekly class without excusal from April through June (recital preparation weeks)*. Excessive absenteeism negatively affects our instructors, as well as the other members of a class. We ask our parents and students to be respectful of the time and efforts put forth by everyone involved in our classes and make every effort to attend classes as scheduled, especially in recital preparation.
If a student is not going to be present for a scheduled class, we do require a phone call be made to our office in order to notify us. This is important for our office as well as our instructors’ knowledge, as we schedule trial classes for new students based on available openings/cancellations/absences in classes so as not to overbook. A proper ratio of instructors/assistants to students must be maintained.
* Competition classes require strict attendance. All absences from January through June must be communicated and cleared with the instructor immediately, including for medical reasons.

4. ATTIRE: Dancewear is sold at the studio for your convenience. All students are expected to wear proper dance apparel and proper shoes at all times! Shoes sold by DP are not always in-stock and must typically be ordered. Orders take up to 2 weeks for delivery. Shoes must be paid for before DP will place your order.Proper apparel is defined as follows:
Ballet:  Pink, black, or tan tights; leotard; no socks; hair confined.
Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop & Musical Theater:  Tights, leotard, dance shorts, or jazz pants (any solid color) and a solid color shirt (no logos) or Dancers Pointe shirt, hair back;  NO SWEAT PANTS, NO BOXER SHORTS, AND NO BIG SHIRTS.
*PLEASE NOTE: Students will not be permitted to participate in class unless properly attired. No street clothes will be permitted.
5. WATER BOTTLES: Water bottles may be brought to class with water, only. No other liquid such as juice or soda is permitted. Students may not drink or eat during class unless it is approved by the teacher.

 6. MAKE-UP CLASSES: Make-up classes are available to those students who have missed their regularly scheduled class due to illness or inclement weather. Make-up classes MUST BE PRE-ARRANGED with our office. This is a courtesy to our instructors and necessary to ensure a class is not over-booked. Please note: taking a make-up class on a weekend is not always possible; in addition, we may have to ask for your flexibility in accommodating you at another studio if a weekend makeup class is required.
However, unless a makeup class is taken within FOUR lesson weeks from the date of the missed class, it will be forfeited.
We ask that those students taking makeup classes in April, May and early June understand that recital preparation is underway in all classes; recital pieces will be rehearsed that will likely make participation of those not in the regular class difficult; though welcomed, an instructor may ask a student taking a makeup to sit for up to 10 minutes of a class in order to prepare his/her class in their recital/competition piece.

7. TELEPHONE CALLS & CELL PHONES: Our telephone is for business. Students will only be permitted to use it for good cause. No cell phones or texting is permitted to occur or remain on during class.

 8. USE OF STUDIOS: For liability reasons, no student will be allowed to use DP studios unless: (a) during a regularly scheduled class with the supervision of a DP instructor or assistant, (b) properly supervised by a DP instructor or assistant, or (c) has rented the studio for a length of time and has paid in-full and signed any proper paperwork to complete the rental requirement and waive DP liability.
Studio space is available for rental in Roselle Park and Springfield locations only. The cost to rent studio space is: $30 per hour for Roselle Park; $35 per hour for Westfield/Scotch Plains; $40 per hour for Springfield/Millburn. Rental of studio space is based on DP’s availability; DP has the right to refuse rental of space to anyone for any reason and may revoke prior permission to rent space at any time.

 9. VACATION SCHEDULE & "SNOW" DAYS: Halloween, Thanksgiving & Thanks giving weekend, Christmas Eve & Christmas Day, Memorial Day weekend and Memorial Day - other vacation days will be posted. Notification of studio closings for holidays will also be given verbally in class from our instructors to our students, and in our newsletters.
The Studio may also be closed because of inclement weather. If you are unsure, call the Studio and listen for the message on the answering machine. NO ONE WILL BE CALLED PERSONALLY. Makeup classes will be available for unscheduled closings.

10. PICKUP OF STUDENTS: Please be certain that your child is safely inside the Studio before you leave the premises. Please be prompt before and after class. We have large waiting rooms, so you are welcomed to stay in the Studios during class. Students must remain in the building until someone picks them up. Please make arrangements to have your child picked up inside the building immediately after class.  Exercise extreme caution when exiting the building and when driving into the parking lot! We urge you to refrain from making a left hand turn into the studio parking lot from Westfield Avenue, and a left turn out of the parking lot onto Westfield Avenue! Consider parking on the street and walking to the studio to pick up your child. Urge your child to wait to be picked up in the waiting room. No students from the studio are permitted in the gym! Please Note: If there are ANY restrictions on who a child can or cannot be released to, our Studio MUST be made aware immediately.

11. DANCE RECITAL, COMPETITIONS, AND COSTUME DEPOSIT: Enrollment for lessons does not oblige a student to participate in our annual dance recital which is held each spring. It is assumed at time of registration that the student will be participating in all performances of the particular class in which the student is enrolled. Those wishing to participate are required to remit a nonrefundable costume fee for each costume by November 15th. The balance for costumes will be due by January 15th. All fees for the year (including tuition and costumes) must be paid before costumes will be distributed for competition, recital or pictures.
If a student is NOT dancing in recital (or competing if in a competition class), it must be noted at time of registration. Otherwise, it is assumed the student is participating in these activities. If it is decided mid-season that the student will not be dancing in recital (or competing if in a competition class), the instructor must be notified immediately.  This is a large inconvenience to both the instructor and the other students in the class once a recital (competition) piece has been choreographed and begun being learned. We ask students and parents to respect our instructors and the other dancers and parents of the studio by communicating intentions openly to our staff members in order to avoid last-minute changes to any recital (competition) routines that will negatively impact the other members of a class, the instructor, and the Studio.

12. PHOTOGRAPHS & PRESS RELEASES: Any photographs taken of any student by or on behalf of the Studio will become the exclusive property of the Studio, and may be used by the Studio for display, advertising, for press releases, or our web site. Enrolling for classes is authorization from the parent or guardian of the student to display the photographs for the purposes specified. Anyone who does not want to grant such authorization must submit a written statement to the Studio.

13. LESSONS AT OTHER STUDIOS: No student will be permitted to take lessons at the Studio while taking lessons at another studio, or while teaching for another studio, unless approved by the Directors.

14. NONWAIVER: The Studio does not give up its right to enforce any rule at any time even though any particular rule may not be enforced on any one or more occasions.

15. DISMISSAL & ADDITIONAL RULES: Any person may be barred from the Studio for failing to abide by any of the foregoing rules, or any rules or policy hereafter established.
